How to Blanch and Freeze Celery

Blanching Instructions

  1. Wash and chop celery stalks.
  2. Fill a bowl with ice water.
  3. Bring a pot of water to a boil.
  4. Blanch celery in the boiling water for about 3 minutes
  5. Strain celery.
  6. Plunge strained celery into the ice water to stop the cooking, drain and let dry completely.

Freezing Instructions

  1. To keep the pieces from freezing together, spread celery on a baking sheet and freeze for a few hours, or until hard.
  2. Transfer to an airtight freezer bag, squeeze out the air, seal, label and freeze.
