Homemade Alfredo Sauce (2)
Ingredients
- unsalted butter (4 tablespoons (1/2 stick))
- garlic, minced (2 cloves)
- heavy cream or half-and-half (1 1/2 cups)
- freshly grated Parmesan cheese (2 cups (2 1/2 ounces))
- kosher salt (1/2 teaspoon)
- freshly grated nutmeg (1/4 teaspoon)
- freshly ground black pepper (1/4 teaspoon)
Instructions
- Melt 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the 2 cloves minced garlic and sauté until fragrant and lightly browned, 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Whisk 1 1/2 cups heavy cream or half-and-half into the butter until combined.
- Heat, whisking occasionally, until the cream simmers, 3 to 4 minutes.
- Whisk in 2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese, 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper.
- Cook, whisking occasionally, until the sauce thickens to coat the back of a spoon, 3 to 4 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, then serve immediately.
