You will be randomly assigned to a "Pro-legalization" or "Against Legalization" group regarding drug policy and the legalization of marijuana in Canada.

I have been assigned to the "Against Legalization", according to an email sent Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

Watch the first few videos (or more) from this:

https://globalnews.ca/video/4565022/what-pot-legalization-looked-like-around-canada-on-the-first-day as well as a video or news article of your choosing and research at least three (3) peer reviewed articles per group regarding the ongoing evolution of drug policy, and its impact on social implications, social determinants of health as well as indication for substance use/abuse and overall health.

EACH posting must have at least one APA style reference to a peer reviewed resource that aids in your argument.  Please ensure that you are critically analyzing the utility of research and its application on current culture and diversity.

Your postings should be 3-5 paragraphs in length.  Post an argument as per your group topic (you could divide these into sections regarding health/financial/physical health/etc) – opposing group posts a rebuttal and your group will post another– and so on until every member of your group has made a posting in the discussion forum and each member has participated in the rebuttals.

You are to conclude on the benefits or consequences of legalizing marijuana as per your assigned group and share your evidence-based opinion in the main discussion forum which will be open for the week of the assignment. (week 11)

A conclusion posting must summarize your arguments in a clear way from one of your group members at the end of the discussion.

A good debate preparation includes;
• Researching the topic and preparing logical arguments
• Gather supporting evidence and examples for position taken – using your peer reviewed articles.
• Anticipate counter arguments and prepare rebuttals.

Monday the discussion board for the debate assignment will be opening.  By now your group members should have divided some pro/con topics and completed some research on the topic of choice.

A debate means one person from one group posts, and the other group counteracts that post with an argument, and it continues on this way.

Each post should have a reference with the peer reviewed sources you used to back your argument or point.

I realize most of you may know this information but am putting it into simplistic terms just in case.

Each group can do their own initial introduction to their argument and conclusion.

Good luck!
